Since inception in 1965, the Kendriya Vidyalayas (Central Schools) have come to be known as centres of excellence in the field of secondary and senior secondary education promoting national integration and a sense of ''Indianness'' among the children while ensuring their total personality development and academic excellence.

Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan, Regional Office, Mumbai came into existence in 1970. It is located inside I.I.T Campus, Powai, Mumbai. Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan, Regional Office, Mumbai is one of the 25 Regional Offices of Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan.

There are 69 Kendriya Vidyalayas (Including 2nd shift vidyalayas) under the jurisdiction of Mumbai Region spread over different parts of State of Maharashtra & Goa.
